about us
Von Rhys Kennels acquires it’s name from our late son Rhys who unfortunately left us at the age of 10 years from an unexpected illness. Rhys would say to us, that one day we would move to a farm and work on the farm together. Keeping with this dream and in his memory we purchased a farm in the Northern Rivers area of Northern NSW and named the kennels in his honour.
My wife and I are the founders of the kennels. I bring a wealth of knowledge from my police background, which I have developed over the years. I am a retired police dog handler with over 17yrs experience in working and training police dogs and with over 20 years experience in training working German Shepherds. In this time I have developed and trained many a police dog from pup to dog. I have developed young puppies from eight weeks old to training mature dogs. I have trained dogs that have had no formal training to successfully become working police dogs. I have trained dogs to reach the highest level. My previous police dog PD Bosun, whom I raised from 8 weeks old became one of the most celebrated police dogs in the country having had success in a number of high profile locations and apprehensions. Resulting in him receiving the German Shepherd Council of Australia and the Queensland German Shepherd association awards for outstanding performance of duty.
I have been the training officer of a large squad for over six years and been responsible for maintaining and developing the squads dog teams to a high standard of performance. I have assisted the state training staff on full training courses for new dog teams. With these years of experience I have learned the importance of good genetics and proper development in producing a reliable working line German Shepherd.
My background has also allowed me to make many contacts and friends in the dog world who have helped me to develop my skills and who are still there to assist in breeding and training matters.
